Figures is a series of monotype prints of serene female figures completed between 2009 and 2013. These figures, clad in their red bathing suits, look upon their world in a calm and reflective manner. Working on and around their graceful shapes and contours, I am able to explore the making of random marks and lines. I love the surprises when I pull a print!

The making of a monotype print:
First I paint on a plexiglass printing plate using archival water-based intaglio inks. An impression of this image is made onto acid-free printmaking paper by using a portable tabletop press. While I am able to print multiple layers of ink on each sheet of paper by using a registration system, each monotype print is unique. Sometimes I am able to make a “ghost” print, or second impression, from the original plate.
